Hard Moment Reset
May 14, 2026
There are moments in caregiving where things shift… quickly.
You can feel it building.
The tension.
The tightening in your voice.
The sense that something small is becoming harder than it needs to be.
And in those moments, there’s often an instinct to keep going, push through, figure it out.
Get to the other side of it as fast as you can.
But sometimes…
moving faster isn’t what helps.
Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do— for both of you—is pause.
Not a long pause.
Not stepping away completely.
Just a small reset inside the moment.
A breath.
A softening in your body.
A slight shift in your tone.
Because when your system is activated… everything you do carries that energy.
Your words.
Your pace.
Even your presence.
And often, the person you’re caring for feels it— even if they can’t name it.
So instead of trying to solve what’s happening right away…you begin somewhere else.
You regulate the space.
You slow your pace.
Lower your voice.
Simplify what you’re asking.
Maybe fewer words.
Maybe one step at a time.
And from there… something begins to shift. Not because you forced a solution— but because you changed the environment the moment is happening inside of.
This isn’t about doing less. It’s about doing something different.
A different starting point.
A different energy.
Because when you reset… you gently change the direction of the interaction.
And sometimes… that’s all that’s needed.
